Strawberries
Come on over to Reid’s Orchard during strawberry season, usually mid to late May. We offer U-pick or we can pick them for you. Either way they’ll be plump, juicy and oh so red.
Strawberries are the first fruit to ripen in the spring.
They are low in calories and high in Vitamin C and also a source for providing anti-cancer bioflavonoids.
The strawberry, is a member of the rose family.
It is the only fruit with seeds on the outside. And on average, there are 200 seeds on each berry.
The American Indians introduced the Colonists to strawberries. They mixed the crushed berries with cornmeal and baked it into bread. After trying the bread, Colonists developed their own version of the recipe and created Strawberry Shortcake.
